These data were created as part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coastal Services Center's efforts to create an online
mapping viewer called the Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer. It depicts potential sea level rise and its associated impacts
on the nation's coastal areas. The purpose of the mapping viewer is to provide coastal managers and scientists with a preliminary look at sea
level rise (slr) and coastal flooding impacts. The viewer is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses.
Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help gauge trends and prioritize actions for different scenarios. The Sea Level Rise
and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer may be accessed at: <http://www.csc.noaa.gov/slr>
This metadata record describes the Channel Islands, CA digital elevation model (DEM), which is a part of a series
of DEMs produced for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coastal Services Center's Sea Level Rise and Coastal
Flooding Impacts Viewer described above. This DEM includes the best available lidar known to exist at the time of DEM creation that met project
specifications for the Channel Islands, CA. This includes the islands of Anacapa, Santa Barbara, San Miguel, Santa Rosa, and
Santa Cruz. The DEM was produced from LiDAR acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 2010 for the Channel Islands.
See Supplemental Information for additional information about this data set.
Hydrographic breaklines were derived from LiDAR intensity imagery using intensity raster stereo models. The final DEM is hydro
flattened such that water elevations are less than or equal to -1 meters.
The DEM is referenced vertically to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) with vertical units of meters and horizontally
to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The resolution of the DEM is approximately 5 meters.
- Purpose:
-
The NOAA Coastal Services Center has developed high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) for use in the Center's Sea
Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts internet mapping application. These DEMs serve as source datasets used to derive data to
visualize the impacts of inundation resulting from sea level rise along the coastal United States and its territories.

Data covers the tile scheme provided for the project area. Elevation data checked for anomalous elevation values outside expected range.
- Completeness_Report:
-
A visual qualitative check was performed to ensure data completeness. All available lidar data known at the time
of DEM creation that meets project specifications has been used to develop the DEM. Known data gaps may exist where lidar coverage was
incomplete.

The DEM is derived from the source lidar data. Horizontal accuracy testing is not performed on the DEM. Lidar source data assumed
to meet 1 meter horizontal accuracy.
- Vertical_Positional_Accuracy:

- Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
-
The DEM is derived from the source lidar data. Vertical accuracy is not tested on the DEM. Project specifications require all
source lidar data used in constructing the DEM to meet FEMA Specifications for Flood Hazard Mapping.

The data set listed below was used to develop the DEM. For further information about this data set or to download the data,
please see the link to the data set in the Supplemental Information field.
1. 2010 U.S.Geological Survey (USGS) Topographic Lidar: Channel Islands, CA
2. Hydrographic breaklines derived from LiDAR intensity imagery using intensity raster stereo models, were supplied with the lidar data.

- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
Class 2, ground LiDAR points are exported from the LAS files into an Arc Geodatabase (GDB) in multipoint format.
Hydro breaklines are assigned an elevation of -1 meters and loaded into an Arc GDB. An ESRI Terrain is generated from these inputs.
- Process_Date: 2012
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
The ESRI Terrain is converted to 5 separate DEMs in Erdas image file format with a cell size of 3 meters. The DEMs are
reviewed in Global Mapper for incorrect elevations and artifacts that are introduced from source inputs or during the raster
creation process. Corrections are applied to the DEMs and reprocessed for review.
- Process_Date: 2012
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
All DEMs are loaded into Global Mapper for the last review. During this last review, an analyst checks to ensure full, complete
coverage, no issues along DEM boundaries, DEMs seamlessly edge-match, and that there are no remaining processing artifacts in the
dataset. Once approved, DEMs are re-projected to the NAD83 geographic coordinate system. The 5 separate DEMS are converted to one DEM.
- Process_Date: 2012
- Process_Step:
-
- Process_Description:
-
For data distribution purposes, NOAA CSC converted the cell resolution of the DEM from 3 meters to 5 meters.
