It depicts potential sea level rise and its associated impacts on the nation's coastal areas. The purpose of the mapping viewer is to provide coastal managers and scientists with a preliminary look at sea level rise (slr) and coastal flooding impacts. The viewer is a screening-level tool that uses nationally consistent data sets and analyses. Data and maps provided can be used at several scales to help gauge trends and prioritize actions for different scenarios. The Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer may be accessed at: http://www.csc.noaa.gov/slr This metadata record describes the New York City Weather Forecast Office (OKX WFO) digital elevation model (DEM), which is a part of a series of DEMs produced for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Coastal Services Center's Sea Level Rise and Coastal Flooding Impacts Viewer described above. The DEMs created for this project were developed using the NOAA National Weather Service's Weather Forecast Office (WFO) boundaries. This DEM includes the best available lidar known to exist at the time of DEM creation that met project specifications for the New York City WFO, which includes Richmond County in New Jersey and the following counties in New York: Bronx, Kings, Queens, Nassau, New York, Suffolk and along the Hudson River in the following counties: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Rensselaer, Putnam, Westchester (along Hudson River and Long Island Sound), Rockland, Orange, Ulster. Because of the large area this DEM covers, it is split into 2 smaller DEMs. They are named NY_OKX1 and NY_OKX2. The DEM is derived from multiple sources. 1. 2010 New York City Lidar (1 m DEM) - acquired by the City of New York 2. 2010 - 2011 Lidar for the Northeast - United States Geological Survey (USGS) LiDAR data for the remaining coast and Westchester County. 3. 2011 - 2012 NYSDEC New York Coastal Lidar - NY State Dept of Environmental Conservation lidar, covering the Hudson River and the coast of Long Island. 4. 2012 USACE Post Sandy Long Island Lidar - US Army Corps of Engineers Post Super Storm Sandy lidar, covering eastern tip of Long Island Hydrographic breaklines were delineated from LiDAR intensity imagery generated from the LiDAR datasets. The final DEM is hydro flattened such that water elevations are less than or equal to 0 meters. The DEM is referenced vertically to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) with vertical units of meters and horizontally to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The resolution of the DEM is approximately 5 meters. Purpose: The NOAA Coastal Services Center has developed high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) for use in the Center's Sea Level Rise And Coastal Flooding Impacts internet mapping application. These DEMs serve as source datasets used to derive data to visualize the impacts of inundation resulting from sea level rise along the coastal United States and its territories. Supplemental_Information: All datasets used to construct this DEM are available via the following: 1. 2010 New York City Lidar (1 ft DEM) http://www.nyc.gov/html/doitt/html/citywide/gis.shtml 2. 2010 - 2011 Lidar for the Northeast http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ 3. 2011 - 2012 NYSDEC New York Coastal Lidar http://www.csc.noaa.gov/dataviewer/index.html?action=advsearch&qType=in&qFld=ID&qVal=1408 4. 2012 USACE Post Sandy Long Island Lidar http://www.csc.noaa.gov/dataviewer/index.html?action=advsearch&qType=in&qFld=ID&qVal=1436 For additional information about the data sets available from NOAA CSC, please see the following metadata records: 1. 2011 - 2012 NYSDEC New York Coastal Lidar http://csc.noaa.gov/dataviewer/webfiles/metadata/ny2011_hudson_longisland_template.html 2. 2012 USACE Post Sandy Long Island Lidar http://csc.noaa.gov/dataviewer/webfiles/metadata/2012_USACE_PostHurricaneSandy_LongIsland_template.html Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Range_of_Dates/Times: Beginning_Date: 2010 Ending_Date: 2012 Currentness_Reference: ground condition Status: Progress: Complete Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: None planned Spatial_Domain: Bounding_Coordinates: West_Bounding_Coordinate: -74.78 East_Bounding_Coordinate: -71.77 North_Bounding_Coordinate: 42.959 South_Bounding_Coordinate: 40.477 Keywords: Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: ISO 19115 Topic Category Theme_Keyword: elevation Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: None Theme_Keyword: Bathymetry/Topography Theme_Keyword: elevation Theme_Keyword: Digital Elevation Model Theme_Keyword: DEM Theme_Keyword: lidar Theme_Keyword: inundation Theme_Keyword: flooding Theme_Keyword: lidar Theme_Keyword: topography Theme_Keyword: sea level rise Place: Place_Keyword_Thesaurus: None Place_Keyword: US Place_Keyword: New York Place_Keyword: New Jersey Place_Keyword: New York City Place_Keyword: Long Island Place_Keyword: Richmond County Place_Keyword: Westchester County Place_Keyword: Bronx County Place_Keyword: Kings County Place_Keyword: Queens County Place_Keyword: Nassau County Place_Keyword: New York County Place_Keyword: Suffolk County Place_Keyword: Albany County Place_Keyword: Columbia County Place_Keyword: Dutchess County Place_Keyword: Greene County Place_Keyword: Rensselaer County Place_Keyword: Putnam County Place_Keyword: Rockland County Place_Keyword: Orange County Place_Keyword: Ulster County Access_Constraints: None Use_Constraints: The dataset is provided as is, without warranty to its performance, merchantable state, or fitness for any particular purpose. Data_Quality_Information: Logical_Consistency_Report: Data covers the tile scheme provided for the project area. Elevation data checked for anomalous elevation values outside expected range. Completeness_Report: A visual qualitative check was performed to ensure data completeness. All available lidar data known at the time of DEM creation that meets project specifications has been used to develop the DEM. Known data gaps may exist where lidar coverage was incomplete. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: The DEM is derived from the source lidar data. Horizontal accuracy testing is not performed on the DEM. Lidar source data assumed to meet 1 meter horizontal accuracy. Vertical_Positional_Accuracy: Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report: The DEM is derived from the source lidar data. Vertical accuracy is not tested on the DEM. Project specifications require all source lidar data used in constructing the DEM to meet FEMA Specifications for Flood Hazard Mapping. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: The following datasets were used to develop the DEM: 1. 2010 New York City Lidar (1 ft DEM) 2. 2010 - 2011 Lidar for the Northeast 3. 2011 - 2012 NYSDEC New York Coastal Lidar 4. 2012 USACE Post Sandy Long Island Lidar Hydrographic breaklines delineated from LiDAR intensity imagery generated from the LiDAR datasets. Process_Date: 2012 Process_Step: Process_Description: GeoCue software was used to develop LiDAR intensity imagery from the LiDAR. The raster resolution was 1ft or 0.3 m. Process_Date: 2012 Process_Step: Process_Description: LiDAR intensity images were viewed in 2-D in ArcMap. Hydrographic features were collected as 2D breaklines. Process_Date: 2012 Process_Step: Process_Description: Class 2, ground LiDAR points are exported from the LAS files into an Arc Geodatabase (GDB) in multipoint format. Hydro breaklines are assigned an elevation of -0.5 meters and loaded into an Arc GDB. An ESRI Terrain is generated from these inputs. Process_Date: 2012 Process_Step: Process_Description: The ESRI Terrain is converted to a DEM in Erdas image file format with a cell size of 5 meters. The DEM is reviewed in Global Mapper for incorrect elevations and artifacts that are introduced from source inputs or during the raster creation process. Corrections are applied to the DEMs and reprocessed for review. Process_Date: 2013 Process_Step: Process_Description: All DEMs are loaded into Global Mapper for the last review. During this last review, an analyst checks to ensure full, complete coverage, no issues along DEM boundaries, DEMs seamlessly edge-match, and that there are no remaining processing artifacts in the dataset. Once approved, DEMs are re-projected to the NAD83 geographic coordinate system.
